Carrie, aka, "the space maker", has been working with the body and its relationship to structure for over 20 years. The practice and teaching of Yoga is a continuous thread through a network of related academic and training pursuits.
The past 16 years she has focused on the emerging science of fascia. Initial exposure to the fascinating world of fascia came through her longstanding and close relationship with Tom Myers, author of Anatomy Trains: Myofascial Meridians for the Manual and Movement Therapist (2001, 2009, 2014, 2020 Elsevier). Through Tom Myers / Kinesis, LLC, she was certified as an Anatomy Trains Structural Integration practitioner in 2004 and is now a senior faculty member, teaching Anatomy Trains and other short and long courses internationally.
She began her studies with Ann and Chris Frederick, leaders in the field of stretching professional athletes and other movers (Stretch to Win®) for optimal performance in 2012. She is certified by the Fredericks as a Level 2 Fascial Stretch Therapist™.
Most recently (2018) she completed her fellowship in Applied Functional Science, studying with Gary Gray and David Tiberio with the Gray Institute GIFT (Gray Institute Functional Transformation / Training ) program. The study of functional movement feels like the infrastructure beneath all movement practices and goes hand in hand with the Anatomy Trains model and other related studies.
The year 2020 created opportunities for online studies, most of which focused around dissection. The insights gained through the study of dissection have stimulated new ways of working and imagining individual connections.
- 2020 - Human Dissection lab on Breath, Movement & Yoga with Leslie Kaminoff and Lauri Nemetz (online study in October)
- 2020 - Human Dissection labs with Tom Myers / Todd Garcia (online studies in July, August & October)
As well, 2020 saw Carrie continuing her studies in functional movement with Bob Fanneli, former faculty teacher at Gray Institute. Where the dissection helps to imagine where space is missing, functional movement reveals where the wheel is not turning.
Carrie’s private practice in Rochester, New York specializes in “making space” for growth and transformation. She offers individual work in both ATSI Structural Integration, Fascial Stretch Therapy, Gray Institute Functional Movement and individualized yoga practices.
Carrie directs Modern Nature Bodyworks, where she teaches Triyoga® flow classes and her own specialty series - Yoga for the Health of It.
